When Republican House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy showed the scene at a Tuesday meeting, the idea was to urge freshmen and Tea Partiers to drop their opposition to House Speaker Boehner’s debt ceiling plan. The scene chosen from the film shows Affleck unenthusiastically inviting another bank robber to commit a crime, who promptly agrees by asking, “Who’s car are we going to take?.”
At least one member of Congress, Rep. Allen West, said he liked it and was moved to side with the Republican plan, adding “I’ll drive the car.” Stewart was amazed.

First, many a TV talking head has said that President Obama is “obsessed” with taxes as the only solution to our mounting debt. “They think he’s crazy!” Stewart concluded, finding that to be the only way to explain why Republicans won’t work with Obama.
While it’s true that Obama wants to end the Bush tax cuts for people making $200,000 a year or more to increase revenue, many people in this country would consider a person with that income to be “rich.” So how is the GOP fighting this notion? Stewart noticed that they’ve actually been restricting themselves from using the word “rich” when talking about those affected by the end of the Bush tax cuts, opting instead for the term “job creators.”

Oliver, Senior British Correspondent, dropped in like Mary Poppins, lost his consonents and made Stewart feel better by putting his troubles in perspective. If Stewart thought the U.S. had problems, wait until he heard about Oliver’s motherland The UK. Stewart doubted him, but Oliver sarcastically assured.
Stewart attempts a rebuttal, saying that America has it worse because our legitimate media outlets are the ones acting unethically, such as ABC News’ funding of the Casey Anthony trial. Oliver nearly sends Stewart to the hospital with his retort: a list of grievances against the British tabloids including the hacking of the phones of missing girls, dead soldiers and 9/11 victims, and evidence that they paid off police.

The 24-hour news cycle had a field day Friday speculating as to what, if any, secrets would be revealed about the former Vice Presidential candidate. For the first time in weeks, the attention wasn’t all on Anthony Weiner or his wiener, although in his speculation about the emails, Stewart definitely went there (“What if they’re all Twitter d**k pictures?”).
So why the arbitrary release of such non-urgent documents? Was there really anything hiding in them? One example of the “bombshells” uncovered was an email from a former legislator claiming she saw Palin put her son Trig in the wrong kind of car seat.

“News Angel” Tom Brokaw and “Comedy Devil” Don Rickles, Stewart figured out a way to cover his old college buddy’s embarrassing situation without giving it the full “Daily Show” political sex scandal treatment. Instead, Stewart gave his friend some advice with the help of a smooth R&B back-up singer.
“If you’re sending pictures of your penis as bait for young women to follow you on Twitter, you’ve got to go,” Stewart said. “But if you just had some junk shots on your computer?”
Stewart asked Weiner to “help us help you” by coming clean about the photo so he can move on with important matters. Assuming he’s telling the truth about not tweeting the photo himself, he just had to admit he either had the photo on his computer, or that he was pranked, not that he “can’t say with certitude” whose equipment is in the shot.

New York City when fake presidential candidate Donald Trump met up with semi-fake presidential candidate Sarah Palin to discuss whatever it is that wealthy pseudo-celebrities discuss when they’re not out creating pseudo-events other than the one they’re creating by meeting up in the first place.
And Trump really rolled out the red carpet for Palin, taking her and her family out for a slice of pizza at Famous Famiglia’s in Times Square, whose fare has recently been described as “a slice that tastes like a manila folder with Ragu slathered all over it.”
Stewart’s audience loudly concurring, Stewart went on an extended rant in which he joked that Famiglia’s could also be found at “terminal four of the Phoenix airport,” offered up several more authentic pizza options, critcized Trump’s slice stacking, finally reaching a height of apoplexy at the sight of Trump going at his pie with a fork, as if he were from outer space or something. Then Stewart moved on to a proper demonstration of both New York-style pizza-eating technique and New York City-style profanity, before concluding: “Based on how you eat pizza, Donald, I want to see your long form birth certificate. I don’t think you were really born in New York.”
One thing that Stewart didn’t touch on was why Trump, who is ostensibly a rich and well-connected man, would drag Palin to Time Square to eat at a chain restaurant. Well, as Village Voice music editor Maura Johnston recalled on Wednesday, “Just FYI, Palin and Trump’s visit to Famous Famiglia was also a little bit of synergy with The Celebrity Apprentice.” Indeed, various Celebrity Apprentice “stars” were dispatched to Famiglia’s 8th and Broadway location back in October, to promote the show.
