USA v El Salvador 3.26.12 MOQ Highlights Video

Monday night when substitute Sean Johnson couldn’t handle a long shot from Jaime Alas of El Salvador in stoppage time.

The ball bounced off his hands, up over him and into the net, and El Salvador ousted the United States from Olympic qualifying with a 3-3 tie.

The stunned Americans missed the Olympics for the second time since 1976 and second time in three games.

“This is probably the worst feeling I’ve ever felt in my life so far as a pro athlete,” U.S. captain Freddy Adu said. “This is going to be hard to get over. But at the end of the day things like this happen. For me, I never want to feel this way again, and I’m going to do whatever it takes to never feel this way again.”

The Americans had to win to reach Saturday’s semifinals in Kansas City, Kan., and they led 3-2 on Joe Corona’s goal in the 68th minute. Officials added 4 minutes of stoppage time onto the game, and U.S. coach Caleb Porter said they were “seconds away” from closing out the win and taking the top spot in Group A. A television clock showed the ball going in 4 minutes, 14 seconds into stoppage time.

What happened is something U.S. midfielder Mix Diskerud said no one wants to experience in life, something he couldn’t believe.

“The last 20 minutes after our third goal, all those minutes felt like very, very long hours. But I thought we were going to make it. Everybody thought we were going to make it.,” Diskerud said.

Federation President Carlo Magri said Sunday that Bovolenta was an “exceptional guy” and his death is a “very great loss.”

Danilo Gallinari’s Behind-The-Back Pass To Kenneth Faried (VIDEO)

DANILO GALLINARI Danilo Gallinaris Behind The Back Pass To Kenneth Faried (VIDEO)
A few days after a breakout game against the Hawks in which his 3-pointer from the corner in the final seconds saved Denver and sent it into overtime, Gallinari may have pulled off the assist of the season in a win over the Boston Celtics.

As the Nuggets got out in transition, Andre Miller found the Italian behind the Boston defense, but his pass was just a little too far preventing Gallinari from an easy bucket. Gallinari had to tip the ball to himself, tight-rope the baseline and re-gain control of the ball.

All of the sudden, Gallinari casually delivered a lightning-fast behind-the-back pass to Kenneth Faried right under the basket for an easy layup. Nuggets fans immediately jumped out of their seats in amazement as Denver took a 12-point lead in the second quarter.

Saturday with the death of skicross racer Nik Zoricic, who suffered head injuries after crashing into the nets on the side of the course near the final jump of a race in Switzerland.

Ski authorities called it a “freak accident,” much the same way they labeled the fatal accident of Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke, who crashed during halfpipe training two months to the day before Zoricic’s accident.

Both Burke and Zoricic were 29.

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge called Zoricic’s death “a very sad day for the whole Olympic Movement.”

“He was a young, gifted athlete who tragically died doing the sport he loved,” Rogge said in a statement.

Skicross debuted at the Olympics in 2010, joining its sister sport of snowboardcross in the latest attempt by the IOC to bring a more exciting, youthful feel to the games. It’s a dangerous discipline – known as “NASCAR on skis” – during which four racers jostle down a course filled with banks, rolls and ridges.

Despite the inherent danger, Max Gartner, president of Alpine Canada, said he was satisfied with the safety precautions in place for the race in Grindelwald, Switzerland.

Derrick Rose game winning stepback jumper vs Bucks Video

Chicago Bulls to a 106-104 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.

Holding the ball for the last shot in a tie game, Rose pulled up just inside the 3-point line and hit it just as time expired. Rose was mobbed by his teammates near halfcourt, and cheered wildly by a predominantly pro-Bulls crowd.

Rose scored 30 and Joakim Noah added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls, who have won eight straight.

Ersan Ilyasova had a career-high 32 points and Drew Gooden added a season-high 27 for the Bucks, who were coming off a home win over Philadelphia on Monday.

The Bulls held Milwaukee’s Brandon Jennings to 11 points on 4 for 18 shooting. Jennings had scored 27-plus points in his previous three games coming into Wednesday.

Daytona 500 Crash – Video

Daytona 500 finally got underway — after an unprecedented rain delay pushed the green flag back from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening — it wasn’t long before everyone had to stop. In fact, the lead drivers managed just one lap and 600 feet, according to the FOX announcing crew. Early during the second lap of the race, a massive, multi-car crash brought out the caution flag and ended the night for at least one prominent driver.

Five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson appeared to get the worst of the crash. After being nudged from behind by Elliot Sadler, Johnson’s No. 48 Chevrolet went high into the wall. As his car came back across the track, Johnson was then pegged in the driver’s door by David Ragan. It was clear quickly that Johnson’s race was done. It was initially unclear how many of the other drivers involved would be able to get back on the track.

Rodgers came out on top in a memorable opening-night duel with Drew Brees, and the Packers made a goal-line stand on the final play of the game to beat the Saints 42-34 on Thursday night.

With the Saints on the 1-yard line, Clay Matthews and safety Morgan Burnett led a swarm of Packers defenders who stopped Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram short of the goal line.

“It’s not what you envision,” Matthews said. “Obviously, you’d love to have a blowout, but I think it represents everything that we preach, which is finishing games. And it comes down to the very last play – we win, or they have an opportunity to tie it up. I think it’s fantastic to overcome that adversity, get the stop that we needed and get off the field with the victory.”

Rodgers and Brees had big games, but Packers rookie Randall Cobb stole the show.

Cobb, a second-round draft pick out of Kentucky, caught a touchdown from Rodgers and ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a score in the third quarter – tying an NFL record for the longest kickoff return in history.

In the wake of a rules change designed to promote touchbacks, Cobb just decided to run one back from deep in the end zone.

“It was amazing,” Cobb said. “The feeling of being in Lambeau Field and just having all of the guys around me coming off of the Super Bowl and just trying to do anything I can to contribute, and I certainly tried to make the most of my opportunities tonight.”

Rafael Nadal during a post-match press conference at the U.S. Open, landing him on the floor beneath the interview table and sending the tennis world into a brief tizzy, the world No. 1 women’s star pantomimed some pain of her own after surviving a thrilling three-set match.

Addressing the media following her thrilling comeback triumph over Svetlana Kuznetsova, Wozniacki imitated Nadal’s press conference cramping, sliding down her chair just like Nadal did. The only difference was that she had a big smile on her face.

After his win on Sunday, the Spaniard cramped up, grimaced and began moaning in pain in front of the cameras and dozens of reporters. He later brushed off the incident and said he was “just have cramping in my leg.”

As is often the case whenever an athlete makes an attempt at humor, some people thought it was inappropriate for her to poke fun at Nadal, while others thought it was simply a funny joke.
