Canada Lesbian Couple’s Engagement During Toronto – Full Video

Canada-based lesbian couple took to the ice of a hockey game during intermission for a crowd-thrilling marriage proposal.

As Yahoo Sports is reporting, a Toronto Maple Leafs fan named Alicia was escorted onto the ice wearing a blindfold. When the blindfold was removed, she looked up at the video scoreboard and read a message from her girlfriend, an Ottawa Senators fan named Christina.

The pair embraced before Christina got down on one knee and slid the engagement ring onto Alicia’s hand. After the couple shared a kiss, the Senators mascot raised a sign that declared: “SHE SAID YES.”

Poor quality of aviation fuel could be one of the possible reasons why the Yak-42 plane crashed in Russia Wednesday, killing at least 43 people, an aviation industry official said.

The plane carrying an ice hockey team crashed and burst into flames shortly after take-off near Yaroslavl, some 250 km from Moscow, emergencies officials said.

The Yak-42 plane was carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team to Belarus capital Minsk, for the start of the new Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

“The aircraft failed to gain the required engine take-off speed and fell from a low height on a Volga riverbank. Refuelling the plane with low-quality fuel is seen as a priority reason for the engine malfunction,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

The Russian emergencies ministry said the plane had 45 people on board – 37 passengers and eight crew members. Two people – hockey player Alexander Galimov and flight attendant Alexander Sizov – survived the crash and are in hospital in critical condition.

Rick Rypien Dead

Royal Canadian Mounted Police called Rypien’s death sudden, but not suspicious. Rypien, a cousin of Super Bowl MVP quarterback Mark Rypien, was 27.

“We would like to express our sincere sympathies to the Rypien family as well as Rick’s friends,” the Jets said in a release. “We also appreciate all of the support that has come pouring in from Rick’s fans. Rick was a talented player with an extremely bright future. His hunger for the game made him a valued team member both on and off the ice. This loss has impacted us as more than just a hockey team.”

Rypien is the second active NHL player found dead this offseason. Former New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard died in May due to an accidental mix of alcohol and the painkiller oxycodone.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Rypien signed a $700,000, one-year deal with Winnipeg last month after spending parts of six seasons with Vancouver. He had nine goals, seven assists and 226 penalty minutes in 119 career NHL games, often dropping the gloves against much larger opponents.

“Rick has been a beloved member of the Canucks family for the past six years,” the team said in a statement. “Rick was a great teammate and friend to our players, coaches and staff. We send our deepest condolences to the Rypien family at this most difficult time.”

The Canucks announced on Nov. 25 that they had granted Rypien an indefinite leave of absence. It was the second time in three years the forward had left the team to deal with an undisclosed personal matter. Rypien also received a six-game suspension from the NHL last season after grabbing a fan on his way to the dressing room in Minnesota.

Rypien also took an extended personal leave after a rash of injuries two years ago, missing 70 games during the 2008-09 season.

“We weren’t being aggressive towards [police] or anything like that. But eventually they passed over us. And that’s when we were on the ground. She was a bit hysterical afterwards, obviously, and I was just trying to calm her down,” said Jones, 29, an Australian who’s been in Canada for six months.

Alex Thomas said she wasn’t sure how she fell, although a witness has told CBCNews.ca that the Canadian woman was hit first by rioters and then pushed over by riot police trying to clear the street after rampant vandalism and looting spread through the downtown streets following the Vancouver Canucks’ Game -7 Stanley Cup loss to the Boston Bruins.

“Tripped up? I’m not sure. I was starting to get really frightened because I’d never experienced anything like that before, and it’s really scary,” Thomas told CBC News. “I was upset, and I fell down, and didn’t really know exactly what was happening.”

Jones said they had been trying to get out of the downtown area but found themselves on a street filled with police in riot gear.
Photos gone viral

“They were literally charging at us and we tried to run away,” he said.

Neither Thomas nor Jones blames the police for what happened, but understand they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“[The police] were doing their job,” Thomas said.

Jones has been working as a bartender and trying to break into acting and standup comedy. At least one of his comedy routines has been posted on YouTube.

Following the Canucks’ loss to the Boston Bruins, images of the kissing couple surrounded by riot police were splashed around the world.

On Twitter, Facebook and other social media, there was early speculation that the picture was staged. CBC.ca immediately launched a search to uncover the identity of the two.

Hannah Jones, Scott’s sister from Perth, told CBC News earlier Friday in an email that the man in the pictures is her brother, and he recently started dating Thomas, a former student at the University of Guelph in Ontario.

The two are overwhelmed by all the coverage the picture has gotten, she said, fielding calls from media around the world.

Wednesday night, images of the kissing couple were splashed around the world — notably in Australia after the family came forward as knowing the man caught in a passionate embrace with a woman on the street of the B.C. city.

Hannah Jones, Scott’s sister from Perth, told CBC News in an email that the man in the pictures is her 29-year-old brother, and he recently started dating Thomas, who attends the University of Guelph in Ontario.

And via Skype from Perth, their father, Brett, also confirmed that the pair are his son and his new girlfriend.
‘It’s just completely gone viral’

Brett Jones said the couple had been at the NHL final game, and after the frenzy following the loss spilled into the street, the two were caught in the violence.

“They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground,” he told CBC News. “[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, ‘It’s going to be OK,’ and the photographer just took the shot at that moment.”

Brett Jones said Scott is fine, and Alex suffered a bruised leg from falling to the ground.

The two are overwhelmed by all the coverage the picture has gotten, he said, noting that he has been fielding calls from media around the world.

“They are both just totally stunned by it, actually.”

The dad of the now-famous bartender-standup comedian said Scott was in Vancouver on a work visa, and is leaving in a few days for the U.S., and then heading back to Australia.

But the image of Scott Jones and his girlfriend will likely forever be considered the one bright light in the Vancouver post-Stanley Cup frenzy.

2011 Vancouver riots, an altogether different sort of passion spilled, literally, into the streets.

At the moment, they’re known only as the kissing couple.

But that won’t last long.

When this unlikely snapshot of lovers entangled on a tear-gas filled street, with riot police in the fore and background emerged Thursday morning, you can bet the great media race was on.

It will, most certainly, be the picture that launched a thousand media inquiries. Who are they? What were they thinking? And who will get to them first?

“We’re looking for the kissing couple in this photo,” CBC News tweeted at 10am Thursday “Know them?”

Good start. After all, the Twitterverse, as usual, caught the image on the quick.

Looks like Gerrard Trojillo (gt23GOTHUNDER) was first on the mark, tweeting, “lol couple kissing during #canucksriot” at about 10 am on Thursday. He was referring to the Esquire blog that first published the photo.

The riots began after Vancouver’s Canucks lost the Stanley Cup last night to the Boston Bruins.

Beer bottles were tossed at giant TV screens in the game’s dying moments, cars and garbage cans were set fire, and fistfights broke out, per the Canadian Press. Flash bombs were used to try to disperse the angry crowd, CBC reports.

Most reports and eyewitnesses, however, say the trouble has been caused by a small segment of fans. “I think it was a few people … Everybody else is watching, some are cheering,” said one eyewitness.

Here’s one incredible image from the scene and you can find more here. You can also watch raw video footage of the downtown Vancouver riots below, and ABC has a live video feed.

Boston’s Tim Thomas decided to get in on the action and showed that goalies can deliver big hits too. In the third period with the Bruins holding on to a 4-0 lead, Canucks star Henrik Sedin had a scoring opportunity right in front of the net. Thomas didn’t Sedin get a shot off and drilled him, causing the Vancouver center to fall on his back as the Bruins defense cleared the puck out of their zone.
