I suppose this is somewhat of one of those cumulative, long overdue prizes, because while the likes of Salma Hayek, Monica Bellucci, Gwynneth Paltrow, and Emma Stone were flirting about the red carpets of France and Italy over the holiday, Kate Winslet is one uniquely framed MILF that simply does not get enough accolades for the sexually-charged roles she plays in film, and even television, such as her role in Mildred Pierce, which she was pimping at the Venice Film Festival. Kate looked downright Valkyrian on the crimson walkway, flashing a real body with real curves that made me really, well, appreciative in a masculine gesture of anatomical glee. Kate, if I could rise without turning red myself, I’d hand you this award.

A wing walker, whose stunt went wrong during an air show at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, has died. His death was confirmed by a spokesperson for Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center.
Todd Green fell 200 feet from a moving plane as he tried to climb onto a passing helicopter. Officials said he was flying on a Steerman aircraft operated by John Mohr. When he fell, many people thought it was part of the act.
“All of a sudden something just trickled out of the helicopter,” said Amanda Cull. “We thought he had a parachute because early guys were falling out in parachutes.”
Channel 7 viewer, Matt Torres shot video of green making two runs at the helicopter before the third try.
“They all gasped, and they said, I hope he’s all right because when he fell, his body bounced a few times on the ground,” said Matt Torres. “He had his hand almost there to grab the strap and then it looked like he didn’t get it.”
Minutes before the accident, correspondence on the announcer’s radio can be heard that there was some worry about wind issues.
It was about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, on the final attempt, that the wing walker fell. No parachute and no safety net.
“I jumped the fence. We ran out and ran to his aide,” said Darren VanBuren.
The Memphis firefighter and EMT raced to start emergency care on Green. He had been in the stands watching the show with his family. He was followed out by a surgeon from Ohio and two other doctors from the crowd.
“Everybody worked in perfect conjunction together,” said VanBuren.
Despite their efforts, Green died from his injuries at the hospital. The wing walker had just performed the same stunt Saturday at the air show.
A video from his website shows how the stunt should look, and shows Green successfully grab the skid of the helicopter while standing on the wing of the bi-plane. It’s a move the experienced stuntman performed numerous times before.
Arnold Sese was near the front of the crowd watching the stunt. He tells Action News that Green was making his third attempt at transferring from the wing of the bi-plane to the helicopter.
“He was reaching for the spar underneath the helicopter and just fell.” Sese tells us. “It looked like a dummy falling to the ground. But when the emergency crews started rushing to the runway everyone knew it wasn’t part of the stunt.”
A powerful magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, the U.S. Geological Survey reported Saturday.
It said the quake, which struck at 3:55 a.m. local time on Sunday (12:55 p.m. EDT on Saturday), was centered 38 miles southwest of the town of Port-Vila and was quite shallow, at a depth of 25.2 miles.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the major quake had not triggered a Pacific-wide tsunami but said: “Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers (80 miles) of the earthquake epicenter.”
There was no immediate information of any damage or casualties, but when on land quakes of this magnitude can cause widespread and heavy damage.
The quake was followed by a weaker aftershock of magnitude 5.9 some 20 minutes later.
The Vanuatu archipelago is located on the so-called “Ring of Fire,” one of the most seismically active regions in the world. Port-Vila is the capital of Vanuatu and has an estimated population of 40,000 people.
Jani Lane, the former lead singer of the metal rock band Warrant, has died in Los Angeles. He was 47.
Officer Sara Faden says Lane’s body was found Thursday in a Woodland Hills hotel. She had no immediate information on the cause or circumstances of his death.
With his long blond hair and tight leather outfits, Lane embodied the excess of 1980s metal rock bands. He joined Warrant in 1984 and wrote such hits as “Heaven,” “Down Boys” and “Cherry Pie.”
He had an on-and-off relationship with the band, leaving it in 1992 before returning and quitting again several times.
In recent years, he appeared in VH1′s “Celebrity Fit Club” and made news for a drunken driving arrest.
A 32-year-old pregnant woman from Pacifica was attacked and killed by her family’s pet pit bull earlier today.
Pacifica Police received a 911 call at approximately 12:15 p.m. about a possible dog mauling in the 500 block of Reina Del Mar Avenue. The first officer to arrive on the scene located the victim, Darla Napora, lying in the front room of her home, police said.
“The victim had major trauma, was not breathing or responsive,” Pacifica Police Chief Jim Tasa said.
The first responders’ efforts to revive the woman were not successful.
The victim’s husband, who had called the police and was also at the scene when they arrived, told police that their two-year-old male pit bull had attacked his wife after he left for work. He said the dog had been secured in their back yard before he left.
President Obama may have escaped for the moment at least becoming the first U.S. chief executive to preside over a U.S. government default on its debts.
But he now holds the dubious distinction of becoming the first president on whose watch the nation’s debt was downgraded by a major credit-rating agency as Standard & Poor’s on Friday cut the rating on U.S. long-term debt to AA-plus from the highest level, AAA.
